In the State of the Union address, the President outlined a new strategy to address the rising mental health crisis in the country. In addressing the needs specifically of the youth, he includes the COVID disruptions which have led to increased social isolation and the anxiety that can accompany it. He also addresses the part social media can play for adolescents and youth. The surgeon general has specifically commented on the negative behaviors that can be reinforced through social media if not used safely.
The new strategy outlines several different points of emphasis along three focuses: strengthen the capacity of the mental health system, connect Americans to care, and support Americans by creating healthy environments.
